A risky tackle by a Puyallup HS defender in the Varsity match

The passionate conversation with the referee after the tackle

We are one week into one of my favorite times of the year, Spring Sports and specifically the Gig Harbor Tides Boys Soccer season.  High School Soccer is a different than club soccer.  There is something different about putting on the school uniform and representing your community when you step onto the field.  The other great part about High School Soccer is you play in front of your friends and peers.  Let’s face it in club soccer the only people who watch your games are your parents and sometimes an Aunt, Uncle or Grandparents.  I have been to games with a hundreds of students in the crowds cheering on their team.  The atmosphere can be a blast.

Spring time also brings big puffy clouds in the Northwest that make for great backdrops. The drama of the weather can add to the drama on the field.

This years Tides team is stacked with 16 Seniors on Varsity and the expectation for a good run into the State rounds of the playoffs is really big.  With three games in the first week the Tides find themselves with 2 wins and a draw – a good start.  Keep checking back for more updates as the season progresses.
